Healing with Horses

Healing with Horses is a powerful and compassionate program similar to Equine Therapy, that supports individuals with mental, physical, social, or learning challenges through Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Therapeutic Horseback Riding. We serve children, adolescents, and adults—including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism, complex trauma, and youth considered at-risk.

Our EAL sessions are designed to build life skills through ground-based activities with horses. These sessions do not involve horseback riding and require no prior experience with horses.

Each session is a collaborative effort between the client, a certified equine specialist, and our gentle, intuitive horses. Through engaging, hands-on interactions, clients are supported in developing:

  • Self-awareness & emotional regulation
  • Confidence & self-esteem
  • Communication & social skills
  • Gross and fine motor coordination
  • Cognitive and behavioral functioning
  • Anger Management & more

After each activity, clients are guided through reflective discussions to help process their experiences—exploring emotions, identifying patterns, and fostering personal insight and growth.

We believe in meeting each individual where they are, and creating a nurturing environment where healing happens naturally through trust, connection, and compassionate guidance. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your child, or a loved one, Healing with Horses is a journey of discovery, empowerment, and transformation.

Community Garden

Fresh Food. Stronger Families. Healthier Futures.

At Fox Moon Farm, our community garden is more than a plot of land—it’s a mission to combat poverty, improve food security, and nurture community connections.

Each summer, with the help of our incredible volunteers, we grow and distribute thousands of pounds of fresh, healthy produce to local families. Our garden supports over 25 households, helping them reduce grocery costs while gaining access to nutrient-rich vegetables and herbs.

But the impact goes far beyond food.

Through gardening, we promote:

  • Healthier eating habits
  • Increased physical activity
  • A deeper sense of purpose and community belonging

By working side by side in the soil, neighbors become friends, and individuals gain confidence, skills, and a renewed sense of possibility.

Farm Trips

Whether you’re planning a weekend workshop, family reunion or a school field tripFox Moon Farm offers a space where everyone—children, families, and adults—can come to reconnect with nature, with one another, and with themselves.

Our farm provides the perfect setting for meaningful moments—whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, reuniting with loved ones, or just taking a break from the fast pace of everyday life. Rooted in the spirit of connection and simplicity, our farm experiences are designed to foster:

  • Family bonding
  • Community building
  • Shared joy and reflection

From corporate retreats to multi-generational families, there’s something here for everyone.

Life can be challenging. We all face stressors—from health and trauma to finances and emotional wellbeing. At Fox Moon Farm, you don’t have to face them alone.

Meet one of our team members, Alyssa!

Alyssa has been volunteering with us for over a year and has become essential in ensuring our herd stays happy and healthy. After feeding the horses, she focuses on training, especially with Romeo, with whom she has developed a strong bond. Alyssa is dedicated to establishing effective communication with Romeo and is a passionate advocate for horses. She hopes to start her own equine rescue someday.

Outside of her volunteering, Alyssa works at the UniTea & Coffee Co. cafe, enjoys baking, drawing, writing stories, and spending time with her dog, Gus.

We are so grateful to have Alyssa as part of our team and could not imagine the farm without her positive presence and unwavering love for our horses!

The average resting heart rate for humans is 60-100 beats per minute (bpm), which is much higher than horses, whose resting heart rate ranges from 28-48 bpm. Horses have a lower resting balance due to their size, as smaller animals need to pump blood harder to circulate oxygen compared to larger animals. This difference means our nervous systems operate at a higher level than those of horses, making co-regulation an essential tool when working with them.

Slowing down to regulate with our horses allows opportunities for those who've experienced trauma to find internal balance. As we lower our breathing and sync our heartbeats, our nervous systems can begin to feel safe.

Grooming horses, as shown in the photo of Kadence, is a practical way to practice co-regulation. We include grooming sessions before most activities to create opportunities for our clients to regulate, especially if they lack other chances to do so.
