Give What You Can

Over 700 children enter the foster care system every single day. 90% of these children will experience trauma. 25% will attempt suicide, and thats just for those who are still in the system. 81% of these young men will be incarcerated and 71% of these young women will become pregnant. 40% will be homeless within 18 months.

Scary statistics but true.

Your donation provides critical funding for our Healing with Horses program, our Day Trips for kids and our Community Garden. Your donation helps us care for our horses and provides financial scholarships to those in need. Even the smallest donation helps.

Thank you, Cindy & Maria

Healing with Horses

50% of all children experience some form of trauma before the age of 17. That’s a pretty big number. That has led to exploding levels of anxiety, depression, anger, suicidal tendencies and more. In Virginia, 13.8% of all students have special needs and are in special education. And that number continues to rise.

Please consider donating to our Healing with Horses program where we help children (and adults) with special needs, find healing and solace, while learning critical life skills needed to successfully navigate adulthood.

Community Garden

Of the 390,000 children in the foster care system in the United States, 97% of these young adults will enter chronic poverty.

This statistic is astounding! This past season, we planted, grew, harvested and distributed over 2,000 pounds of fresh vegetables to families in need in our community. Not only do our gardens support the impoverished, but they also provide healing for those who work in the soil.

Meet our fairy queen Kadence! 🧚

Kadence has been exploring the hidden worlds of our forests in search of fairies and will eagerly tell you that she's even seen a couple of them. Finding a topic that a child loves is one of the foundations for setting them up for success as they work on challenging goals.

For Kadence, talking about fairies as she launches on magical adventures opens the door for her to practice her speaking skills. Traveling around the farm, climbing over gates, like she is in this picture, and digging beneath stones gives her the opportunity to practice her fine motor skills.

We take pride in having structure to our sessions, but also a significant part of what we do is allowing our participants take the lead. This creates a safe environment for them to be themselves as they work on challenges that may not be improving elsewhere.

Do you have a child who is ready to join magical adventures at the farm? You don't have to rub a genie to make it happen. Instead, reach out to us on our website to get in contact- foxmoonfarm.org/contact-fox-moon-farm/

Happy Halloween from the Fox Moon Farm family! We hope you all have a fun and safe holiday with plenty of treats!

Here are five horse-themed treats from us:

🎃 Did you know that horses can enjoy small amounts of pumpkin?

☠️ Horses have 205 bones in their body!

🧙‍♀️ Some folklore claim that witches' knots were created by mythical creatures, such as witches, who left 'braids' in a horse's mane to be discovered by morning as a sign that they took the horse out for a ride.

👹 In Scottish folklore, Kelpies are shape-shifting water spirits that take the form of a horse to lure people onto their backs before bringing them underwater to be eaten.

👻 When a horse becomes scared of something, we say that they got spooked!
