Healing with Horses

Healing with Horses is a powerful and compassionate program similar to Equine Therapy, that supports individuals with mental, physical, social, or learning challenges through Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Therapeutic Horseback Riding. We serve children, adolescents, and adults—including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism, complex trauma, and youth considered at-risk.

Our EAL sessions are designed to build life skills through ground-based activities with horses. These sessions do not involve horseback riding and require no prior experience with horses.

Each session is a collaborative effort between the client, a certified equine specialist, and our gentle, intuitive horses. Through engaging, hands-on interactions, clients are supported in developing:

  • Self-awareness & emotional regulation
  • Confidence & self-esteem
  • Communication & social skills
  • Gross and fine motor coordination
  • Cognitive and behavioral functioning
  • Anger Management & more

After each activity, clients are guided through reflective discussions to help process their experiences—exploring emotions, identifying patterns, and fostering personal insight and growth.

We believe in meeting each individual where they are, and creating a nurturing environment where healing happens naturally through trust, connection, and compassionate guidance. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your child, or a loved one, Healing with Horses is a journey of discovery, empowerment, and transformation.

Community Garden

Fresh Food. Stronger Families. Healthier Futures.

At Fox Moon Farm, our community garden is more than a plot of land—it’s a mission to combat poverty, improve food security, and nurture community connections.

Each summer, with the help of our incredible volunteers, we grow and distribute thousands of pounds of fresh, healthy produce to local families. Our garden supports over 25 households, helping them reduce grocery costs while gaining access to nutrient-rich vegetables and herbs.

But the impact goes far beyond food.

Through gardening, we promote:

  • Healthier eating habits
  • Increased physical activity
  • A deeper sense of purpose and community belonging

By working side by side in the soil, neighbors become friends, and individuals gain confidence, skills, and a renewed sense of possibility.

Farm Trips

Whether you’re planning a weekend workshop, family reunion or a school field tripFox Moon Farm offers a space where everyone—children, families, and adults—can come to reconnect with nature, with one another, and with themselves.

Our farm provides the perfect setting for meaningful moments—whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, reuniting with loved ones, or just taking a break from the fast pace of everyday life. Rooted in the spirit of connection and simplicity, our farm experiences are designed to foster:

  • Family bonding
  • Community building
  • Shared joy and reflection

From corporate retreats to multi-generational families, there’s something here for everyone.

Life can be challenging. We all face stressors—from health and trauma to finances and emotional wellbeing. At Fox Moon Farm, you don’t have to face them alone.

One of our Healing with Horses clients, Paisley, has significantly grown in her confidence and horsemanship skills lately. So much so, that she has progressed into our horseback riding program!

Riding Merlin has been a huge confidence booster for Paisley to learn how to effectively communicate, to trust on a deeper level, and to take responsibility as she independently brings him in from the pasture, grooms, and tacks him.

This has been especially helpful for Paisley to understand that Merlin is allowed to say 'no' to her, whether he is confused by her cues or simply doesn't want to complete an activity. It's a difficult challenge to handle a horse's 'no' and be respectful of it, but Paisley has been working really hard to navigate her growing partnership with Merlin.

We are so excited for Paisley as she navigates these next steps in her healing journey!

❄️ It's Fun Fact Friday! ❄️

You may have noticed as we post about our horses and the weather gets colder, we do not put on blankets! Horses bodies are developed to have natural insulation against the cold- even snow! As the weather gets colder, a horse's muscles control each hair follicle to allow them to stand on end and fluff up into their winter coat. The space between the hair and body traps heat, allowing them to stay warm.

How can you tell if your horse has grown an appropriate winter coat? You'll notice that when snow falls on their back, it does not melt, because the heat is being trapped within! Special consideration does need to be taken account for warm blooded horses like Arabians and Thoroughbreds who are primed for warmer environments and may have a more difficult time growing a thick enough coat. If you notice your horse shivering as weather gets colder, reevaluate if their winter coat is doing its job and if they may need to switch to a blanket!

Let us know in the comments if you think we'll be getting any snow this month! ⤵️ ☃️
