Sponsor a Farm Animal

What would our programs be without our critters? Whether its playing with the baby goats, fetching chicken eggs, or feeding scraps to our pet pig Sassy, no session would be complete without a stop at the barn.

When you sponsor one of our farm critters, you help pay for grain, hay, vet visits, medications etc. on a monthly basis.

It’s amazing to watch the transformation in participants who come to the farm and spend time with our animals. Some are scared to even enter the pastures on their first visit, but just a couple of sessions later, you can watch as they confidently sit on a rock with a goat in their lap and a big smile on their face!

Our Farm Animal Sponsorship program offers three levels for contributions with a three-month commitment. When you sponsor one of our farm animals, you will receive a certificate with a picture of your sponsored animal, as well as an acknowledgement to be included on our website.

Your donations are tax deductible and you will receive a tax donation certificate which you can use when tax season comes. There is nothing like the feeling of knowing you are helping not only individuals in need of the healing power of animals, but also our animals themselves. We appreciate you and hope you will consider donating!

Meet our Amazing Farm Animals

As with many great farms, we have a flock of chickens. Our chickens offer eggs to support our mission to end food insecurity in King & Queen county and many of our clients enjoy egg collecting and taking their findings home. If you have the speed and skills, you may even be able to catch a chicken to teach younger children how to safely interact with different species of animals.

Many folks don’t realize how much work goes into chicken care! Please consider sponsoring our flock to help support the costs of feed.

All sponsorship levels receive a tax-deductible donation receipt and acknowledgement on our website. Sponsors are encouraged to visit their animal, and volunteers are always welcome.

We have a number of goats here at the farm and if you visit in the spring, you will get to meet the newborns. We will occasionally milk our female goats (goat cheese anyone?!), but our goats mostly offer affection, curiosity, and of course entertainment. The kids, both goat and human, run around the pasture jumping off rocks and bouncing around. For our older folks, our goats help teach our clients how to gently interact with animals, how to be brave trying new things, and provide plenty of laughs.

Please consider sponsoring our goats to help support the costs of feeding them, so they can continue to offer their teachable moments and silly antics.

Our pet pig Sassy is definitely the smartest animal on the farm. She is also the queen and a “drama queen” at that. She squeals and screams when any other animal even gets close to her- queens need their beauty sleep after all. When not eating, which is her favorite hobby, she loves to forage with the goats and chickens or you”ll find her slinking off and making her way down the road to hang out with the horses (who can blame her).

Please consider sponsoring Sassy so she can continue to rule her throne here at Fox Moon Farm.

🌿 A Day of Joy at Fox Moon Farm 🌿

There are days here at The Fox Moon Farm Project that remind us exactly why we do this work — and our recent visit from the Autism Society Central Virginia was one of them.

We were honored to welcome a wonderful group of families to the farm for an afternoon of connection, discovery, and a whole lot of laughter.

The day began with our horses and donkeys. Before any hellos, the children learned important safety lessons from Kylie — how to approach a horse, how to offer a gentle hand at feeding time, and how to read these big, kind animals. Then came the grooming! Our miniature donkey Nappy soaked up every bit of attention, and the children met Merlin, one of our oldest and sweetest rescues. (And yes — when Nappy decided it was the perfect moment to poop, our little farmhands jumped right in to help clean up. Real farm work, after all! 💩😄)

After a snack and some water back at the community center, we headed to the henhouse to spend time with our goats, chickens, and of course Sassy the pig. The children lit up gathering eggs and scattering feed for the hens.
And what's a farm day without a ride? Everyone took turns on the tractor and golf cart as we made our way down to the lake to hunt for turtles and frogs. 🐸
To the team at Autism Society Central Virginia — thank you for spending the day with us. Watching these children explore, care, and connect with our animals is the heart of everything we believe in: the healing power of nature, one gentle moment at a time.

We can't wait for our next adventure together. 🦊🌙

What Does an Equine Assisted Farm Based Learning Session Look Like?

This right here is Desi, and he is WORKING. 💪

He's not playing pretend. He's not doing a worksheet. He is shoveling real compost that will feed real soil that will grow real food. And he knows it.

That sense of genuine, meaningful contribution? It's one of the most powerful things that happens at Fox Moon Farm.

So — what does a session actually look like here? Every session is one hour, one-on-one, and completely individualized. We start by checking in: how is your family member feeling today? What do they need?

From there, the session unfolds naturally. Some days that looks like: 🐴 Grooming and bonding with one of our horses 🫏 Feeding and caring for our mini donkeys 🐐 Learning responsibility through goat care 🐷 Visiting our pet pig, Sassy 🌱 Getting their hands in the soil in our garden 🌾 Farm chores that build strength, routine, and pride.

Every single activity is purposeful. Measuring feed teaches math and focus. Mucking the donkey pen supports gross motor skills and the satisfaction of completing something real. Earning a horse's trust teaches patience and self-regulation. Leading an animal builds communication and confidence.

Our clients leave each session having had real fun AND having practiced real life skills. 💚

Curious? We'd love to have you visit. Message us to schedule a free consultation!

What is Equine-Assisted Learning?

Look closely at this photo. Kenneth is drawing in the sand — completely focused, completely calm. And right there next to him? One of our mini donkeys, quietly curious, keeping him company.

That's equine-assisted learning in a nutshell. 🐴

You might have heard the term and wondered what it actually means. Here's the simple version: equine-assisted learning uses interactions with horses and donkeys to help people develop important life skills. And it doesn't always mean riding! A lot of the most powerful work happens exactly like this — just a child, an animal, and a moment of quiet connection.

At Fox Moon Farm, our clients might spend time grooming a horse, leading one through simple obstacles, or just sitting together in the pasture. What they're actually learning? Emotional regulation. Patience. Non-verbal communication. Genuine confidence.

Horses and donkeys are incredibly tuned in to our energy and emotions. They respond honestly and without judgment — giving real feedback in real time, in a way no textbook ever could.

For individuals with special needs who may struggle to feel understood or regulated in everyday settings, that kind of honest, gentle connection is genuinely life-changing.

No horse experience needed. Just an open heart. 💚
