95 degrees on the farm today — and it's a lot for everyone, horses included. 🌡️

Heat like this doesn't just slow us down, it's genuinely hard on our horses. They can't cool off the way we can, and their heavy coats hold onto heat. Add in the flies, which have been relentless this week, and it's a rough combination — the heat wears them down and the flies won't let them rest.

So this week, everyone has pitched in. Our kiddos in the program and our whole Fox Moon staff have been out there hosing down the horses, keeping them cool and comfortable and watching over them a little closer than usual. It's been a beautiful thing to see — the same kids who come to us for healing are the ones showing up to take care of the animals who help heal them.

When we're not out at the barn, we've been taking refuge in the community center — arts and crafts, building fairy houses, games, and just finding ways to stay cool together. Hot weather doesn't stop the connection and the growth happening here, it just moves it indoors for a bit.

Grateful for a team — two-legged and four-legged — that shows up for each other no matter what the thermometer says.

So many families raising a child with special needs know this feeling: scanning a room before you walk in, watching for stares, bracing for the moment your child needs to move, or make noise, or just be themselves — and wondering if this place will be understanding, or one more space you have to manage instead of enjoy.

At Fox Moon Farm, that worry can rest.

Here, the way your child moves through the world isn't something to explain or apologize for. It's simply our norm. Children are free to run, to be loud, to stim, to laugh too big or need a quiet minute — and no one is watching to judge. Parents can finally exhale. Read a book by the lake. This is what Farm Gatherings are for: a day, or a full weekend, where your family gets to just be — together, unguarded, at peace.

While you're here, meet our horses and donkeys, feed the goats and chickens, and hold one of our four brand-new baby goats. Fish, boat, or swim on the lake. Hike our woods, try our new ropes course, or grab the mic for karaoke on the Mama Stage. Our cabin offers a full kitchen and shower for overnight stays, and our gazebo by the water is perfect for shade and a family barbecue.

Temple Grandin has spent her life showing the world what autistic minds can do — and she's spent just as much time showing us what animals understand that words sometimes can't reach.

That's the heart of what we do at Fox Moon. Every child who steps onto our farm is met exactly as they are — not fixed, not changed, just seen. The horses don't need a child to make eye contact or find the right words. They just need honesty. And that's something every one of our kids already has.
