Our Healing with Horses program is nothing without our incredible herd of horses who provide our clients with friendship, self-confidence, laughter and freedom.
When you sponsor one of our horses, you help offset some of the costs of caring for them and enable us to put more funding into expanding our low-cost programs for individuals in need and support those in our community who wouldn’t otherwise have access to this form of service.
All sponsorship levels receive a tax-deductible donation receipt and acknowledgement on our website. Sponsors are encouraged to visit their horse, and volunteers are always welcome.
The Healing with Horses Sponsorship program offers three levels for contributions for every three-month commitment. When you sponsor a horse, you will receive a certificate with a picture of your horse, as well as an acknowledgement to be included on our website.
Each horse costs approximately $400.00 per month for hay, grain, nutritional supplements, de-worming, bi-annual shots, hoof care, vet care and rent for facilities. We understand that this is a lot! As a result, we offer three different levels of sponsorship for you to choose from.
We hope you will consider sponsoring one of our sweet horses. We are still a growing non-profit and not only will you be helping the clients who come here to heal, but also help provide much needed feed and care for the horses who do most of the work. We appreciate you!
Meet our amazing herd – they are the heart and soul of Healing with Horses.
🎶 Don’t Worry, be Happy! 🎶
Little baby Happy is our other miniature donkey and the newest addition to our herd! Born November 2024, Happy has been a wonderful addition to our herd due to his natural, no pun intended, happy-go-lucky personality! Not much bothers Happy and apart from the occasional bout of stubbornness (he’s still a baby after all), he has fit right into our herd. As we continue to train Happy, he will begin to participate not only in our regular programming, but also hitting the road to visit those who need a dose of happiness.
Merlin is Cindy’s ‘heart horse.” As a strong and stocky Quarter Horse with some western skills to show off, we believe he used to be a Reining ranch horse in his previous life. After four days of travel from a slaughterhouse in Alabama, Merlin was the first to join our herd, alongside his friend Annabella. Due to his unknown past, we don’t know Merlin’s exact age, but we believe he is about 25 years old. He is sweet, kind, and very loving to all in our Healing with Horses programs.
Merlin shares similar struggles as many of our clients, with anxiety and skittishness. Once you build up trust with him however, you’ve got a bond for life! He is an easy favorite amongst our participants and for those in our riding program, an absolute delight to ride. We are so grateful to Merlin for spearheading our program and showing how love and patience can transform lives.

Napoleon (or Nappy for short) is everyone’s best friend! With a puppy dog personality, Nappy will follow you around wherever you go. He might even give you a “hee haw” if you decide not to spend your whole day cuddling him. As twelve year old mini donkey, Nappy is ‘fun sized’ and perfect for children who might feel intimidated by the larger horses.
Nappy spent his previous years babysitting young horses and decided it was time to do the same with our children. He takes his job seriously and if he doesn’t have his head on top of yours, he just might crawl into your lap to let you know there’s more work to do (which is giving him ear scratches of course)!

“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?”
You can find Romeo right here at Fox Moon Farm! Romeo is a twenty year old Paint Horse gelding. As sweet and loving as his namesake, Romeo has shown time and time again his big heart. Although the first to get antsy at the grooming station, Romeo is also the first to pick out a client with heavy weight on their shoulders. He has a keen sense for identifying folks who need more emotional support and has a special connection with younger children. It’s hard not to fall head over heels for this lover boy!

Sunbeam is a Missouri Fox Trotter, in his early twenties- another one of our older fellows and sweet as pie. If desensitization was a horse, it would be embodied by Sunbeam. He used to live and work in Virginia Beach at another therapeutic program, so he has all the skills needed to partner alongside our clients with his gentle spirit. Being an older horse you’ll sometimes find Sunbeam falling asleep as he hangs out with you (…or is he trying to get out of his riding lesson?!) Want to wake him up though? Sunbeam is a complete goober for treats and you’ll find him sticking his tongue out at you after he eats a few! You know what they say- sun’s out, tongues out!
